As we look toward the horizon of 2026, the landscape of travel across the United Kingdom is shifting. We are seeing a move away from the traditional, solitary road trip. While the romance of the lone explorer certainly has its place, the real story for the coming year is about connection. It is about how the simple act of parking up next to a stranger can turn into a lifelong friendship. This evolution is a crucial aspect of the broader picture of UK tourism in 2026.

We have noticed that more families, couples, and solo travellers are seeking something deeper than just a scenic view. They want a shared experience. This desire for connection is redefining what it means to tour the UK and beyond, especially considering the trends we expect to see in UK tourism in 2026.

The Power of Shared Experience

For a long time, owning a motorhome or campervan was about independence. It was about having your own self-contained world. That is still true, but we are finding that the “value” of a trip increases significantly when it is shared.

When we organise a rally, we aren’t just booking a field. We are creating a temporary village. In 2026, we believe tourism will be driven by these micro-communities. It changes the psychology of travel. Instead of worrying about being isolated in a remote location, our members find confidence in numbers. Knowing that there are friendly faces waiting at the destination encourages people to venture further than they might have done on their own.

It turns a daunting journey into an exciting one. You fill the framework we provide with your unique experiences, but you always have a safety net of like-minded people nearby.

Extending the Season

Another major change we are driving is the death of the “off-season.” Traditionally, UK tourism hibernates after October. We take a different approach. Our vans are homes on wheels, and they are meant to be used year-round.

Right now, as we close out 2025, we are already gearing up for incredible winter and spring events. For those who want to escape the British grey, we are heading south. Our Portugal Rally kicks off in January 2026. We are swapping cold skies for sunshine from the 19th of January to the 2nd of February. It is a two-week event that proves van life doesn’t stop when the temperature drops.

Closer to home, we keep the calendar full. We have our St Patrick’s Rally in Cheshire at The Bickerton Poacher in March 2026. It promises a weekend full of craic and camaraderie. Shortly after, we head to South Wales for the Sully Sports and Social Club Rally. This creates a continuous stream of tourism that benefits local economies year-round, not just in August.

Making Adventure Affordable

We cannot talk about the future of tourism without addressing the cost. We know that fuel, insurance, and gear add up. This is where the non-profit model becomes vital. Because we are a non-profit organisation, every penny we make goes back into enhancing services for you.

We believe that adventure should remain accessible. That is why our annual membership is fixed at just £35, covering two adults and two children per van. But beyond the low entry cost, we use our collective buying power to lower the cost of the lifestyle itself.

Through our partnerships, we secure discounts on the essentials. Whether it is leisure batteries, accessories, or outdoor gear, we help lower the overheads of travel. A prime example is our partnership with Emergency Assist Ltd. We offer members 25% off breakdown cover across the UK and Europe. This is specific cover for motorhomes and campervans, acknowledging that these aren’t just vehicles. They are your homes and your investments.

By reducing the financial friction of travel, we allow more people to stay on the road longer. This keeps the spirit of UK tourism alive and well, even when economic times are tight.

Responsible Exploration

As the number of vans on the road increases, so does our responsibility. We are passionate about promoting responsible travel practices. It is not enough to just visit a beautiful location; we must look after it.

We actively work with our members to demonstrate respect for the environment and local communities. By organising formal rallies in designated areas—like the charming village of Orleton for our upcoming New Year Rally—we reduce pressure on wild camping spots and ensure that our presence is a positive one for the locals.

We focus on creating memorable moments where preparation meets adventure. This approach ensures that we can all continue to access the beautiful British countryside for years to come.

The Road Ahead

The definition of a tourist is changing. It is less about observing and more about participating. It is about the potluck dinner shared between three different vans from three different counties. It is about the advice swapped over a morning coffee regarding which route to take next.

If you are ready to be part of a community that values the journey as much as the destination, we are here to welcome you. Whether you have a factory-built motorhome or a self-converted camper, you have a place with us.

Van life offers freedom. But when shared with a community that understands that lifestyle, that freedom multiplies. We hope to see you at a rally soon. Your next unforgettable travel memory could be just one friendly hello away.
